About
About Child Allowance
We're a small independent team in the UK. We built the thing we wanted for our own kitchen tables: a way to turn the jobs already happening around the house into an allowance a child can actually explain.
Why it exists
Most allowance systems fail the same way. The money arrives when someone remembers, the chore chart lasts three weeks, and the child learns that money appears rather than that money is earned.
We built the first version in 2025, because nothing we tried survived contact with a real week. It has been running in real kitchens ever since, and close to every feature in it started as something a family wrote in and asked for.
Who builds it
Child Allowance is made by a small independent team based in the United Kingdom. We're not a startup with investors to answer to, and we're not part of a bank or a card company. We're parents who build software, solving a problem we had ourselves.
That independence has a practical consequence. Most allowance apps are a debit card with an app attached, made by a company that also earns a little each time the card is used, so the incentives point towards spending. Nobody earns anything when your child spends through this one, because the money never passes through it. Child Allowance keeps score; you keep the money, and you decide how it changes hands.
Small has a practical consequence: there is no support department and no ticket queue. When you email us, one of the people who builds the app is the one who reads it.

How we pay for it
Free for one child, forever, with no card. Premium — unlimited children, carer logins and recurring job templates — comes with a 30-day free trial that takes no card either. See what it costs where you are.
Families on the free plan also see ads in the parent dashboard; families who pay don't. The guides on this site carry ads for everyone who accepts them — they have no sign-in, so there is no plan for them to check. We will never charge a child, and we don't take money to recommend a bank, a card or an app to your kids.
What we won't do
- No advertising on any child-facing screen. Not now, not on a future plan.
- No selling or sharing your family's data, with anyone, for anything.
- No profile of your child. A child's account has a username and a PIN — no email address — and nothing we store about them is ever used for targeting.
That isn't a promise made in a marketing page. It is written into the privacy policy and enforced in the code that decides whether an ad can load at all.
About the guides
The guides in Learn are written by the same team that builds the app, and each one carries the month it was last checked. They come out of running allowances in our own homes, what parents tell us works, and the research we could find on what children understand about money at each age.
They are not financial advice, and there is no single correct allowance number. They're written to help you land on one you can explain to your child — which is the part that makes it stick.
